About Mermaid Chelsea

I was born and raised in the mountains of Colorado—about as far from the sea as you can get. I grew up swimming in freezing rivers, climbing rocky trails, skiing down snowy peaks, and chasing adventure wherever I could find it. I was always the “outside kid,” the one who couldn’t be pulled from the water and always wanted just five more minutes outside. As I got older, that turned into being the “adventure girl”—the one getting gently wrangled by SCUBA instructors because I kept swimming off to explore.

These days, not much has changed—except now I’m an adult with the freedom to keep exploring (and yes, my parents still worry).

I’ve been lucky to live a life full of twists, turns, and incredible experiences. I studied Theatre in college, which taught me so much more than how to be on stage—it helped me become outgoing, brave, flexible, and confident. It also brought me some of the most incredible people I know, and relationships are still the most important part of my life.

After graduating, I went back to school to study American Sign Language and became an interpreter. Along the way, I’ve held all kinds of jobs: lifeguard, swim and yoga instructor, dance teacher, waitress, aquarium staff, and more. But my heart has always been pulled in two directions: toward the stars and toward the sea.

Space and the ocean have more in common than we think—one rules the tides, the other holds our dreams. I may not be a scientist, but I’m a student of life with a fierce love of learning and a deep respect for nature.

In 2020, during the pandemic, I discovered the world of mermaiding at the age of 34—and everything changed. It gave me a way to blend performance, education, and magic into something meaningful. Mermaids have an incredible ability to inspire. With a little whimsy, they can spark joy, imagination, and even conservation.

My journey as Mermaid Chelsea is just beginning. I’m so glad you’re here—and I can’t wait to share the magic with you.
